Electric Adjustable Beds: Improving Sleep and Transfers

An electric adjustable bed can dramatically improve comfort, independence, and carer safety. These beds are designed for people who have difficulty repositioning in bed, require support for safe transfers, or experience pain or medical conditions that impact sleep quality.

Occupational therapists assess your sleep habits, support needs, and medical conditions to determine if an electric bed is suitable. Key features may include height adjustability, head and leg elevation, and integrated side rails. Some beds also include functions to assist carers with repositioning or nursing tasks.

These beds are ideal for individuals with neurological conditions, chronic pain, post-surgical recovery, or age-related frailty. OTs also ensure the bed fits well within the bedroom environment and accommodates any required equipment such as hoists or over-bed tables.

At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we provide home-based bed assessments and support clients to apply for funding. We liaise with suppliers and carers to ensure every bed is set up safely and comfortably.
