Pressure cushions are essential for individuals who spend extended periods sitting or who are at risk of pressure injuries due to limited mobility or poor circulation. These cushions are used in wheelchairs, recliners, car seats, and regular chairs to help distribute body weight and protect skin integrity.
Occupational therapists conduct detailed seating assessments to determine the right cushion type. There are several options available, including gel, foam, air, or hybrid cushions. The best choice depends on the person’s medical history, risk level, posture, and daily seating habits.
In some cases, pressure mapping technology may be used to assess how pressure is distributed while seated. An OT can also provide education on repositioning techniques, seating schedules, and skin checks to further reduce the risk of pressure injuries.
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we offer comprehensive pressure care assessments and help clients access funding through NDIS and other programs. We are committed to ensuring every client remains comfortable, safe, and well-supported.
