Should You Consider a Mobility Scooter?

Mobility scooters are ideal for people who can walk short distances but need support to travel further due to fatigue, pain, or balance issues. They are commonly used for shopping, visiting friends, attending appointments, and maintaining social participation.
Scooters differ in size, speed, and terrain suitability. Some are compact for indoor use, while others are rugged and designed for outdoor adventures. Occupational therapists assess your ability to safely mount and dismount the scooter, control the steering, and operate the brakes.
We also assess your environment: is there a safe place to store and charge the scooter? Will you be using it on uneven surfaces or in busy pedestrian areas?
At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we help clients trial different scooters, choose the right one for their needs, and assist with completing NDIS funding applications. Our goal is to ensure clients feel confident, safe, and supported.
