Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be overwhelming at times — especially when it comes to understanding the different professionals involved in supporting your child’s goals. At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we work as a collaborative team to deliver personalised, evidence-based support. Here’s a breakdown of who’s who in your therapy team, and how they each play a role in helping you or your child thrive.
Occupational Therapists (OTs)
OTs work with clients to build independence and improve participation in everyday life. Under the NDIS, they help with:
Daily living skills (dressing, toileting, meal prep)
Sensory processing and emotional regulation
Motor skill development
Assistive technology recommendations
Home modifications and functional assessments
Speech Pathologists (SPs)
SPs support all areas of communication, as well as feeding and swallowing. Their focus includes:
Speech clarity and language development
Social communication and literacy skills
Stuttering and fluency
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
Mealtime safety and food variety
Allied Health Assistants (AHAs)
AHAs work under the direction of OTs and SPs to deliver therapy programs, provide additional support, and help generalise skills in everyday settings. They are a cost-effective and flexible option for ongoing therapy and can:
Run home and school visits
Deliver goal-based sessions
Help with group programs and intensives
How the Team Works Together
Every client at South Coast Therapy & Support Group is supported by a coordinated team approach. Here’s how it works:
OTs and SPs complete assessments, write therapy plans, and provide direct intervention.
AHAs carry out therapy tasks under the guidance of the therapists.
The team regularly reviews progress and adjusts goals as needed.
Funding Therapy Through the NDIS
NDIS participants with funding in their Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living budget can access OT, SP, and AHA services. We’ll help you:
Understand your plan and what’s covered
Align your therapy supports with your NDIS goals
Provide progress reports and therapy updates to support plan reviews
