Social skills are the skills we use to communicate and interact with each other, both verbally and non-verbally, through gestures, body language and our personal appearance. Social skills can help children make and maintain friendships, learn from others, and develop appropriate social awareness, hobbies, and interests!

Developing social skills for kids is crucial to their overall growth and success. Social skills help children to form positive relationships, communicate effectively, and navigate social situations with ease. As a parent or caregiver, there are many ways to support your child in developing their social skills.

One way is to encourage your child to participate in group activities such as team sports, clubs or classes. These activities provide opportunities for children to interact with their peers and develop important social skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Another way to develop social skills for kids is to model positive behaviour. Children learn by example, so it is important to model good social skills yourself. This includes being a good listener, showing empathy, and being respectful to others.

Additionally, teaching your child how to manage their emotions can also aid in the development of their social skills. Helping your child learn to identify and express their emotions in a healthy way can improve their communication skills and their ability to interact with others effectively.

Developing social skills for kids is an essential part of their growth and development. By providing opportunities for social interaction, modelling positive behaviour, and teaching emotional management, you can help your child to build strong relationships and succeed in all aspects of their life.

Through games and practice social skills groups allow children to explore what communication is how to use it effectively in a range of different environments. In these groups we will look at a variety of specific skills that are used in everyday life, such as listening and paying attention, taking turns, and sharing, providing, and following instructions and how to start and maintain appropriate conversations. These groups will also explore what behaviours and communication are appropriate for different environment and scenarios.
