School readiness is a wholistic approach to building the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a school environment and gives little ones the confidence they need to start the school adventure[1]. School readiness aims to include a variety of aspects that children can utilise throughout their school experience.
Preparing your child for school can be an exciting but daunting task, especially if you’re a first-time parent. However, with a little preparation and planning, you can make the transition to school a smooth and enjoyable experience for both you and your child. Here are some school readiness tips to help your child get ready for their big day:
Establish a routine: Children thrive on routine, so it’s important to establish a consistent schedule that includes regular bedtimes, meal times, and play times.
Encourage independence: Encourage your child to do things for themselves, such as getting dressed, packing their backpack, and putting away their toys. This will help them build confidence and develop important life skills.
Foster a love of learning: Encourage your child to explore the world around them and ask questions. Read to them regularly, take them on educational outings, and provide them with age-appropriate toys and games that promote learning.
Develop social skills: Help your child develop social skills by arranging playdates with other children, enrolling them in group activities, and teaching them how to share and take turns.
Build resilience: Starting school can be stressful for some children, so it’s important to teach them how to cope with challenges and build resilience. Encourage them to talk about their feelings, validate their emotions, and provide them with positive affirmations.
By following these school readiness tips, you can help your child feel confident and prepared for their first day of school. Remember, every child is unique, so be patient, be supportive, and celebrate their achievements along the way.
