At South Coast Therapy & Support Group, we love finding creative, hands-on ways to support children in building essential life skills. This week, our Whisking Wizards group delivered a perfect blend of fun, learning, and development — with the sweet smell of freshly baked scrolls filling the clinic!

Led by our new Senior Occupational Therapist, Klara, this group is one of many exciting new updates to our therapy programs. Klara has been working hard behind the scenes to refresh and reinvigorate all of our group offerings, ensuring that they are not only engaging but also grounded in evidence-based occupational therapy practice. The result? Sessions like Whisking Wizards that kids love — and parents value.

More Than Just Baking

While it might look like a cooking class at first glance, Whisking Wizards is so much more. Designed specifically to build life skills, this group focuses on helping children develop independence, confidence, and everyday abilities through fun and functional tasks.

In this session, our little chefs worked together to make delicious scrolls from scratch. Along the way, they practiced key skills such as:

  • Following multi-step instructions

  • Using kitchen tools safely

  • Measuring and mixing ingredients

  • Cleaning up their workspaces

  • Waiting and taking turns

  • Problem-solving and decision-making

Cooking is a fantastic platform for life skill development, and our team uses every opportunity to help children apply these skills in real-life situations. Whether it’s spreading, rolling, pouring, or cleaning up, each step supports fine motor coordination, executive functioning, sensory processing, and social interaction.

Designed with Purpose

Our group programs are intentionally small and supportive, with therapists and allied health assistants guiding each child based on their goals and needs. Activities are carefully planned to be developmentally appropriate, flexible, and most importantly — fun!

Klara’s expertise has been instrumental in ensuring that each group not only targets important therapeutic goals but also creates a welcoming and inclusive environment where kids feel safe to learn and grow.
